The anticipation around this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
